What are your favorite (all time favorite) song lyrics?

I'm interested in what song lyrics hang in peoples heads. What is your favorite romance (love) song lyric?

What is your favorite humor (or weird) song lyric.

What is the saddest song lyric?

What is the most controversial song lyric?

Let me hear from you, please.

Romance Lyric? Hmm. get back to that one later.

Humor? "Star Trekkin' across the universe. On the Starship Enterprise, under Captain Kirk. Star Trekkin' across the universe. Only goin' forward, cause we can't find reverse." - Star Trekkin'

Saddest? "Look around just people, can you hear the voice
Find the one who will guide you to the limits of your choice
But if you're in the eye of storm
Just think of the lonely dove
The experience of survival is the key
To the Gravity of Love" - Gravity of Love by Enigma

Controversial? "She wore a bra size forty-five, I thought I never would revive
When I tackled that young lady with the bounciest of blouses
But she left me for a geezer who had much more chance to please her
With his own master blaster and a pair of baggy trousers

Oh what fun they had...

Bra size forty-five..." Bra Size 45 by Ivor Biggins :P

Don't know if the last one works, but oh well. :)

Great ones, Aaron. I'll post my first answer here: My favorite Romance (Love) song lyric:

There will never be, a portrait of my love, For no-one can paint a dream.
You will never see, a portrait of my love, for miracles are never seen.
Any one who sees her, soon forgets the Mona Lisa.
It would take I know, a Michael Angelo.
And he would need the glow of dawn that paints the sky above
To try to paint a portrait of My Love.

I listen to various genres of music, and I can pretty much see very different from what you guys replied here.

The one that I can share is
Saddest song: "Your heart is so loud" by Colleen. This song doesn't have any lyrics, I know you said Song lyrics, but this song speaks for itself, it doesn't need lyrics. The rhythm has been on my mind ever since I heard it, it has some sadness and and eerie feel to it too. Since it doesn't have any lyrics, here's the link to my youtube page: http://www.youtube.com/staticrevolutions#p/f/24/cn2EsgxVp6I.

Saddest Song lyrics: "Old Shep"

Now Old Shep he is gone, where all good doggies go
No more through the fields we will roam.
But if Dogs have a heaven, there's one thing I know.
Old Shep has a wonderful home.

Okay, how about something UN-sad for a change:

Ooh, yeah
Kickstart my heart
Give it a start
Ooh, yeah, baby
Ooh, yeah
Kickstart my heart
Hope it never stops
Ooh, yeah, baby

I think we all now where this is from. WHOOOOO!!!!

How about silliest (or craziest) song lyrics anyone??? The above entry by Aaron Greene comes closest to silliest in my opinion, but then there were songs from the 40's that topped even that: Mares eat oats and does eat oats and little lambs eat ivy, a kid'll eat ivy too, wouldn't you? (Danged if I would!) That has to be amongst the top 10 silliest lyrics ever.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KQMBz6HvSoM for the song, Kickstart My Heart, don't blame me if you don't have any adrenaline left, lol :P just teasing. i'll put this at the most powerfully energetic for sure, IMO

Silliest? most everything that Weird Al ever did, for sure, hehehe

I love lyrics/songs/music and at different times of my life, I'll play a certain song and feel like every word is how i'' feeling.

So here's my list

Welcome to my life by simple plan

Do you wanna be somebody else?
Are you sick of feeling so left out?
Are you desperate to find something more?
Before your life is over
Are you stuck inside a world you hate?
Are you sick of everyone around?
With their big fake smiles and stupid lies
While deep inside you're bleeding

No you don't know what it's like
When nothing feels all right
You don't know what it's like
To be like me

To be hurt
To feel lost
To be left out in the dark
To be kicked when you're down
To feel like you've been pushed around
To be on the edge of breaking down
And no one's there to save you
No you don't know what it's like
Welcome to my life

No one ever lied straight to your face
No one ever stabbed you in the back
You might think I'm happy but I'm not gonna be okay
Everybody always gave you what you wanted
Never had to work it was always there
You don't know what it's like, what it's like

Most romantic would be I just call you mine by Martina Mcbride
I pinch myself sometimes to make sure I'm not in a dream
That's how it seems
I close my eyes and breathe in the sweetest moments I've ever known
It feels like home
And here I am I want to be your everything
There you are
Turning winter into spring

And everyone that sees you
Always want's to know you
And everyone that knows you
Always has a smile
You're standing ovation after years of waiting
For a chance to finally shine
Everyone calls you amazing
Yeah
I just call you mine

I fall apart
Just a word from you just somehow
seems to fix
Whatever's wrong
Oh, you reach into the weakest moments
And remind me that I'm strong
You've got to know
I'd be a fool not to see you even worse
To forget that you're more than I deserve

I dedicated this song to my brother on his wedding and it also applies to my two sons My wish by Rascal Flatts,
I hope that the days come easy and the moments pass slow,
And each road leads you where you want to go,
And if you're faced with a choice, and you have to choose,
I hope you choose the one that means the most to you.
And if one door opens to another door closed,
I hope you keep on walkin' till you find the window,
If it's cold outside, show the world the warmth of your smile,

But more than anything, more than anything,
My wish, for you, is that this life becomes all that you want it to,
Your dreams stay big, and your worries stay small,
You never need to carry more than you can hold,
And while you're out there getting where you're getting to,
I hope you know somebody loves you, and wants the same things too,
Yeah, this, is my wish.

I hope you never look back, but ya never forget,
All the ones who love you, in the place you left,
I hope you always forgive, and you never regret,
And you help somebody every chance you get,
Oh, you find God's grace, in every mistake,
And you always give more than you take.

This is one of my favorite songs/lyrics of all time. it says so much in just a few verses. It's sad and controversial at least to me. I listen to it whenever I write it helps my thoughts flow.

The Logical Song by SuperTramp.

When I was young
It seemed that life was so wonderful
A miracle, oh it was beautiful, magical
And all the birds in the trees
Well they'd be singing so happily
Joyfully, playfully watching me

But then they send me away
To teach me how to be sensible
Logical, responsible, practical
And then they showed me a world
Where I could be so dependable
Clinical, intellectual, cynical

I say, "Now what would you say for they calling you a radical
Liberal, fanatical, criminal?"
Won't you sign up your name? We'd like to feel you're
Acceptable, respectable, presentable, a vegetable

How about the most controversial song lyric??? Anyone?? I think one that has stirred a lot of talk is:

Puff the magic dragon lived by the sea.
He frolicked in the Autumn mist in a land called Honah Lee
Little Jackie paper loved that rascal puff
And brought him strings and sealing wax and lots of fancy stuff.

Many people wanted this song banned as they thought that it was advocating the use of the old whacky tobacky, MaryJane, grass, joints, roaches, whatever you want to call it. What do you think?

Don Yarber

23rd September 2011

@ Don: I remember liking that song as a kid only because of the word "dragon". Reading it now, I smile at what I had missed.

As for lyrics... I don't know why, but I seem to connect a lot with non-English songs, which is weird since I'm most fluent in English.

Anyway, for romance it's Si Volvieras A Mí by Josh Groban.

¡Ay! si volvieras a mí
Encendería el sol mil primaveras.
Si regresaras por mí
Sería un milagro cada beso que me dieras.
Pero hoy te vas
Y no hay vuelta atrás.
___________________________________________
Oh, if you would come back to me
The sun would light up a thousand springs.
If you would return for me
Each kiss you'd give me would be a miracle.
But now you are leaving
And there is no coming back.

As for sad lyrics, Kanlungan by Noel Cabangon has my vote.

Lumilipas ang panahon
Kabiyak ng ating gunita.
Ang mga puno't halaman
Bakit kailangang lumisan?

Pana-panahon ang pagkakataon.
Maibabalik ba ang kahapon?
_______________________________
Time passes by
In tandem with our bliss.
The trees and plants
Why must they leave?

Opportunity is seasonal.
Can yesterday ever be returned?

Kanlungan is really close to my heart because it's the last song I listened to before I left the Philippines for good. It's a song that's a definitive farewell to my childhood as well as a hymn of that looming regret of things I wish I had done or known. I'm perfectly happy with the memories I've made, but I guess the sadness is that they've come to an end.

Daniel: In 1955 I was a sailor and visited Manila. We had a big party at the Manila Hotel and there was a young lady named Gloria De Leon singing there. I had the opportunity to join her on stage and we sang a duo, "Harbor Lights" and then I sang "Blue Moon". Back in those days I had a pretty good singing voice. Now I sound like Kermit the Frog.

I found this little "gem" on a website for tractor repair:

Oh Beautiful for smoggy skies, insecticided grain,
For strip-mined mountain's majesty above the asphalt plain.
America, America, man sheds his waste on thee,
And hides the pines with billboard signs, from sea to oily sea.

Priceless !!!

@Don: You have more guts than I do. I can never muster the courage to go on stage and sing in front of everyone -- Kermit voice or not.

@Nina: What does that stanza say?

Daniel Sintos

24th September 2011

It is a song of a mighty river Dnipro, and nature around it in the moment of sunrise. if u phonetically read the words you will hear Ukrainian language.

Nina Orlovskaya

24th September 2011

@Nina. I tried to read it as I would pronounce the words, but with no English comparison, the only word I caught was "serdity". Does than mean "quiet?"

Don Yarber

24th September 2011

it means mad you got the opposite quiet would be tihiyi

I wish we had sound on here so I could hear it. Many years ago in Detroit I dated a Polish girl. Her parents spoke little English, and I remember how their native Polish language sounded. It seemed to change as their moods changed. If they were happy, the language sounded happy to me. If they were upset, the language sounded gruff and upset. But the Polkas !!!! They were always light and happy. Great times then.

Don Yarber

27th September 2011

yes, Don. Ukrainians are mostly sad and moody. there is a saying about us, when we sing - we cry. But language is beautiful, it is soft and rounded. our alphabet a few letters longer than Russian, therefore there is more sound to the language. but i will do little more research, i will fend nice Ukrainian song an Utube and i will bring it to your attention

@Nina... That second one was quite haunting, but in a good way! I liked it as well.

How about this song? I love this song alot! It`s both sad and amazing at the same time!!

Shattered by trading yesterday

Yesterday I died, tomorrow's bleeding
Fall into your sunlight
The future's open wide beyond believing
To know why hope dies
Losing what was found, a world so hollow
Suspended in a compromise
The silence of this sound is soon to follow
Somehow sundown

And finding answers
Is forgetting all of the questions we called home
Passing the graves of the unknown

As reason clouds my eyes, with splendor fading
Illusions of the sunlight
And the reflection of a lie will keep me waiting
Love gone for so long

This day's ending is the proof of time killing all the faith I know
Knowing that faith is all I hold

And I've lost who I am
And I can't understand
Why my heart is so broken
Rejecting your love
Without love gone wrong
Life
Less words
Carry on
~~~~~~~~~~
To keep this discussion alive, I've come up with a poem that is composed COMPLETELY of song titles. (It may not make sense at times, but it is fun to try) If you can add to it, please do, but the second and forth line must rhyme (or come danged close to rhyming)
REMEMBER...USE SONG TITLES ONLY..NO FILL WORDS.
I’ve got heartaches by the numbers
Till I waltz again with you
You make me feel so young
I’m all alone and blue
That’s when the heartache begins
On Blueberry Hill
When I fall in Love
My heart stood still.
A portrait of my love
Beyond the sea
I’ll never love again
Just you and me.
You light up my life
In a beautiful dream.
God Only Knows
Just one of those Things
Since your gone.
That’s when the heartache begins
I’ll get over you.
With a little help from my friends.
Teach me tonight
Stoned out of my mind
Sweet Little Sixteen
I walk the line.
Life is a Highway
We're all in this Thing Together
Love is always there
One in a Million
God called in sick today
Exsanguination
Counting Bodies like Sheep to the Rhythm of the War Drums
Silver and Cold
When All is Said and Done
I let the Music Speak
Dance While the Music still goes on
Go to Sleep Little man being erased
What do you want from me?
Does this Mean you're Moving On?
No More I Love You's
Try Sleeping with a Broken Heart
(This is just A in my music library, if I had to write one using my entire music library, it'd end at epic length I think.)
