Has anyone ever been to or held a Seance

For the sake or research for a future writing project I was wondering if anyone has ever been to or held an actual séance at their house/someone else’s?

If so what was the experience like? Did it change your view point on the authenticity of seances or just confirm what you had hitherto suspected before you partook?

If you held your own seance did you have to pay for the Medium's services or give a donation? What items did you need in order to hold the seance. How are such mediums contacted (are their names in the phone book?)

Did the experience leave you feeling satisfied?

Pardon my ignorance but I have never been to an actual seance and only seen them on movies and televsion.

No I haven't. I've seen plenty of movies with them. What's the project? Can you tell?

No. never been to a séance. But have done the Ouija Board and that was freaky, yet true! Does that count?

Ok, what's a seance? Is it some yoga or meditation type or a sporting activity?

It's calling up the dead Asma.

Sorry never been to seance but I have visited plenty of psychics if that helps you.

I haven't been part of a seance, nor did I ever see one, but I think that would be very interesting. I have, however, been told of a real-life exorcism, by my brother Dave who had witnessed such a thing first-hand. It was the most remarkable and most terrifying thing he had ever seen. He had heard terrible things coming from the mouth of the little girl who was believed to have been possessed. He told me details that were extremely unsettling. Yikes! He said that he had never witnessed anything like that in his life. Also it was not an exorcism with any Catholic Priest, no. Rather it was performed with traditional Indian Elders, using an entirely different culture and religion than that of the Catholic/ and Christian faith. The little girl began walking again shortly after and she returned to her normal little girl happiness and health soon after that. Sorry for going off topic here, but I would like to hear some experiences of Seances; things like the energy in the room, things being moved about, voices being heard, the change in the Medium's tone, also facial distortion, things like that. Heck, maybe I'll have one! Just kidding!

Leslie I think that would make a compelling story. Run with it!

During WWII my father had some people come to the house who believed strongly in "table talking". The table being the dining room table. Ours was about 6 feet long and made of heavy oak. The participants sit around the table with their palms down on the table, and ask the table to knock once for yes and twice for no.

The conversation I remember went like this: Father: "Table, table, if you are in my power, knock once."
The table corner raised and one knock could be heard when it hit the floor.
Father: "Table, are my sons in danger?" The table knocked once.
Father: "Is it Delbert (my oldest brother)? The table knocked twice.
Father: "Is it Warden? (The next oldest brother) The table knocked once.
Father: "Will he live?" The table knocked once.
Father: "Will he be coming home soon?" The table knocked twice.

We found out a week or so later that my brother Warden's ship had been sank by a torpedo.

I have personally observed this phenomenon and I'm not sure what to think about it. Some say it is the Devil's work. I don't know. I refuse to try it, although I have taken part in "witching for water"...a practice my father was good at doing and passed on to me. I can find water using a branch from a tree. Is that the Devil's work? The Bible says that if we have faith the size of a mustard seed we can move mountains. I prefer to think that the water finding is God's work.

Great. :) take appointment from my secretary. Fully booked untill New year as I have to summon serious souls around Christmas. ;)

Now seriously, guys, here is a story from me.

Back home in Pakistan, there was a girl who fell in love with a guy. A young girl in his office was obsessed by him, so she asked her ugly brother who looked like a toad to do something.

The young toad was a black magician and he took to his tutor, a witch and they made black magic on her to kick her out of the guys life. The toad gave her candles and the witch connected to the girl though the flame.

The woman's mother found out. She went to the priest, a Muslim guy who was a mosque head. They cured her from teaching of Quran and taught her prayers on how to protect herself from the toad, the black magician, and his evil tutor, the witch who practiced black magic.

May they both Rot in hell as black magic is forbidden in Islam.

The end

Daniela, another point.

I don't summon spirits from hell, only good ones from heaven and usually only thrones on the top most level are available as they have more freedom to move around. Now, since they are ViP in heaven, it's very hard to contact the, and take time. They are busy.

Spirits cannot be called on Thursday's, Fridays and all public holidays as they also have a heavenly life and rest on those days. One has to be polite in the spirit world.

Amazing story Asma, thank you all for your responses, incidently your fees sound quite resonable though I was an informercial offering a one off session for $199.99, but I had to wait because there was more. If I rang in the next ten minutes I would also get a free set of steak knives. By the by they were willing worked weekends and public holidays but would have to charge an extra ten thousand guilders - over time rates.

I was interested in the exorcism Daniel.

Wasn't sure how popualar Seances were these days, so thought I'd ask the opinions of the Scribeslice community.

LOL - I am sorry! I was just joking with Daniela. I have this thing with spirits that they should not be disturbed, so I actually have no info on the topic. I make fun of the people who commercialize this very sacred realm. Love the steak knives bit. :)

Its a good read though. :)

I also share your view that spirits should not be disturbed. I am really only trying to get some feel for what would happen at a seance for the sake of reseach.

I suggest you check a few movies on the subject. Some movies like paranormal activity are so scary I havent even seen them yet

I am afraid of dark spirits, and I would die if I met my ancestors now in spirit as I didnt turn out the way they would have liked. :)

SO I pretty much keep that door to the spirit realm closed and guard it so at least no one in my vicinty accesses it.

I am against these practices as I have found peace and love in the power of prayer. My point is that when you can be direct with God who created it all, why bother the spirit world with endless questions. too much of this stuff can cut you from reality and drive you mad. Its dangerous stuff.

Not questioning your motive, just sharing my view here, in case you wish to add views of people you asked about this phenomenon. :)

Asma...I agree. The dead should rest in peace. I didn't quite understand all of this when I was younger, because I was too curious, but after the last Ouija Board experience, over 30 yrs. ago, I've never done another. Yes, it actually is disturbing the spirit and it is an evil force.
Thanks Asma, for getting it right.

I remember listening to the BBC radio play of "A Hitch-hikers Guide to the Galaxy". Part of it has the main characters being chased by aliens called Vogons. Zaphod Bebblebrox (ex preseident of the galaxy)decides to hold a seance with his great grandfather who before telling Zaphod to "get lost" gives him a bit of advice.

"We have a saying up here" says the grandfather "Life is wasted on the living"

I always liked that, very deep and thought provoking. Perhaps that was what first made me curious about seances.

Speaking of spooky movies you can't go too wrong with the film "Insidious" if you want to get spooked out.

Leslie Blackwell

I like the saying. Personally, the spirit world fascinates me but I think that if you dabble in this stuff too much, it can make you discontent with your real practical life. My theory is to live each day, thanking that I am alive, and try to stay as real as possible.

Leslie, Insidious scared the crap out of me! Usually I am not scared when it comes to horror films but that one really got to me. My friends made me watch it a second time when we were having a movie night. I tried so much to not pay attention; I was on my phone or covering my eyes. It didn't help.... That movie just replays itself in my head. The images are so creepy! Lets not forget about the music too! It was just too much for me.

I have to agree that "Insidious" is very scary!
