Getting closer to the big one

Wellington had a magnitude 6.6 earthquake today, a bit stronger than the one a few weeks back (6.2) and shallower (8kms compared to the previous one which was 12kms deep). It caused a lot of disruption. The railway station was evacuated as a matter of procedure and airport closed. It was centred once more around Seddon (South Island)and the latest reports tell of damage to houses and the road there.

Two big shakes in less than a month. I suppose there is still a chance of a much bigger one but I hope that never eventuates.

Leslie, I hope that you are OK after the recent earthquake. I heard about it on the news over here in Australia. I just hope that you are OK.

All is well but the south island seems to have had a worse time of it (More damage). The aftershocks (some in the 5s) are still continuing. A bit of an update. Geo net confirmed that the earthquake was a 6.6 not a 6.2 as previously reported.

Leslie, that is why we have been hesitating to return to N.Z. especially after that
Christchurch earthquake.

Hope you are not affected!

The latest news is forecasting another big shake in the next seven days, with a 90% chance of it being over 5 and 25% chance of it being over 6. Better odds than the TAB.

Oh dear. Praying all stays safe. The loss of life and property is shattering in natural disasters. Please stay safe.
