For Charlie

This has been the hardest poem I have ever written, I lost my father not long ago and it is difficult to put all that he was in a few short words. It has taken me a while to get this far and I am pretty sure it will be re-written several times.

In the profound silence,
I can hear your voice,
I treasure all you gave me,
the strength within my soul.

I see you all around me,
in memories we share,
the clock upon the mantle,
made with loving care.

Pictures of vacations,
and family holidays,
sitting on a fencepost
in your younger days.

Cowboy boots and overalls,
cowboy hats, John Wayne,
Godfather one, two and three,
a few of many things.

Men all playing bluegrass,
around the living room,
tractor pulls and football games,
those boys looked up to you.

You hid the fudge at Christmas,
milked the pinky mouse,
did silly pranks, told funny jokes
watched tv on the couch.

Ran the streets department,
played the alderman,
spoke your mind at meetings,
gave the city heck.

The wife you gave your life too,
you loved with all your heart,
took care of you when you were sick,
your choice of her was smart.

Raised up seven children,
did your utter best,
to give them what they  needed,
boy they sure were blessed.

There were so many people,
whose lives were touched by you,
remembering your sacrifice,
to help all those you knew.

I treasure all the dreams I have,
at night when you are there,
another chance to be with you,
see your smile, feel you near.

As you watch from heavens gate,
know that you are missed,
just because I can't see you,
I know you still exist. 3 comments

And even though you are not here,
our Love always evolves,
it grows more dear with each new dream,
its strength is our resolve.

.......I see you all around me,
.......in memories we share.
