My second feeble attempt at free verse.  As I walked the hallway from kitchen to my desk I heard Grandmother speak.

Grandmother Time

Grandmother stands in the living room hall
And never misses a beat
Ticking along as time goes by relentlessly measuring
Every second
Voicing her opinion in intervals of quarter hours
Dividing eternity into minutes
then into seconds.
With perfect cadence her heart beats as seconds fly
Like butterflies here and there
Fluttering across the calendar’s pages
As I grow older.
The sounds of time echo in her chambers
But Grandmother keeps talking to herself
And all that will listen .
Measuring my time like teaspoons full of love
She weighs the continuity my life
While I waste the precious moments
I have left.
Hour after hour, day after day
Never complaining, speaking to me in tiny ticks
And silent between the times she chimes
That repeated melody
Someday soon your time will end.
