Written for my children

Be gentle in your manners but believe in what you say
Don't give up your destiny to seek an easy way.
Be tolerant of others but discipline your mind
To recognize the lessons that tomorrow leaves behind.
Fish each stream, drink from each brook
You'll learn more there than from any book.
Climb the mountains, run through the fields,
Drink the wine that the good earth yields.
Walk the woods, my child, and see
The part of you that is of me.
And when I'm gone, don't grieve...
Part of me will never leave.
