I have been absent from Scribeslice for quite awhile. I`ve been feeling the itch to start writing again. So, here I am again. This time I have decided to write mainly for myself. In other words, the only other person i will try to impress is the one that looks back at me in the mirror.

This little squib of writing is meant to re-introduce myself to whoever cares to read my work.I have been a.w.o.l.for awhile now, and I am curious to catch up on my reading. If the Muse co-operates, then my pen will flow with fresh ideas and images to eclipse my last entries.I will be the first to admit that I`m no Hemmingway. After all, we can only be whatever we were meant to be as writers.

My dream of becoming a published author has not breathed its`last.Square one is a curious place to start and to be honest, I had entertained the silly notion of writing under a different name, but, as they say ..A rose by any other name would still smell like Allen Clarke. Amen, can I have a witness on that out there? I like the idea of reading other people`s literary efforts. It encourages me to strive to be the very best that I can possibly be, at least, on paper or in print. 1 comment

There is an inexpressible rush we feel when we, as writers, first see our work in print form. It`s not so much an ego thing, but moreless a small reward for our efforts. It`s also a motivating factor just to know that you are being read by your peers. It`a form of validation and it`s nice to know that your work is being acknowledged.Every human being has the need to connect with a sense of self-worth.So when a writer is applauded for his craft, it`s a bonus.

The down-side of writing is one needs to be fairly tough-skinned to withstand the slings and arrows of what might seem, at times, like outrageous criticism. Constructive criticism is the probably the very thing that we need the most to develop as writers. So what else can we say to that, but, bring it on!I appreciate honesty, because without it,we cannot advance beyond the mediocre. There was a time when I couldn`t stand to be told how to write. The reason for my attitude was that I hated to admit that perhaps the critic might have wanted to give me something useful that I could build on. 1 comment

I believe that the craft of writing is a life-time process.Think of the possibility that something that we wrote might have influential impact on someone long after we are gone. In a sense, the chance of leaving such a legacy is , I believe, every writer`s dream. So, I will end with this thought..as Bill farmer, once told me, Only losers quit.``So, by all means, write on!!
