soul mates

We’re one of the lucky few,
The unaffected who
Never had a soul to sell,
Born out of place and time but
Safe from any living hell,
Or fear of death
Or fear of living too long and far too well.

We're always the survivor found
In every kind of wreckage,
Shivering but smiling,
Half-buried in the cold ground
All the while plotting revenge
Against the silent hand that dropped us down
With no soul to sell.
