THE POEM EVOKES THE FAMILIAR FEELINGS OF UNREQUITED LOVE.

She walks brightly and still
Studded in glory and grace,
Till looking at her by the window sill
I see the vestiges of a secret face.

She was the one whom I yearned for,
Dreaming haltingly of a pagan attraction
For her; yet in all my yearnings for
her I knew not whence I found the misconception
that distorted my image of her.
I pictured her in my dreams and reveries
As one who was perfect and dear,
As an individual without scorn and pedigree,
Till I had the first jolt of misled conscience.

Now I am distracted by an yearning
for self-doubt as I was silly
to water down her image by leading
myself onto her wiles willy-nilly.

Then in the pathos of remorse and self-doubt
I cast my eyes on the one thing
that holds me still; being a lover of those who liked to flaunt
their vanities as the only needful thing
that holds them in this earth as a being
packed to the rafters, tied to the caravan
of life's mutinous tirade, and then seeing
with distress and shame at my wan
and pale future; the final bolt to my waylaid mind.

She walks brightly and still
Studded in glory and grace until
looking at her from my new vision
I can see the roots of malice and treason...
