More from Jordan Newman

i see angels above me, i see demons below me, fighting over heaven.
i loved her more when i was sober.
i don't want a second chance.
love starts with that of a flickerin' cigarette
i swear i could feel your love before i knew your name.

She had a friend.

She said, 'I'm broke,' and I laughed and replied, 'me, too.'
then she informed me, 'but only for a few days because then i get my pay.'
it's right there i felt like an idiot because i realized she spoke of finances not emotions, so i feigned a smile as i tried hard to look sympathetic for her pain.
did my best to not reveal the truth of my realization; and then had to try even harder not to laugh ...at the fact that the horror of reality has boiled down to paying rent and not that of discovering who it is we really are; that loving one another has nothing to do with the other but more or less loving ourselves and praying to God that someone will come around that may one day show us the err of our ways; that maybe that individual will shower us with so much praise and give us so many gifts that our ego's will explode with pride and then suddenly our love shifts to those who can give us those things, those expensive things we could never afford to give to ourselves. because i remember as a young man, i asked a girl for a date and she laughed as she gently informed me her father doesn't allow his children to date that young; and then a week later i seen a man give her a flower which in return he rec'd a passionate kiss from the same girl who then jumped in his car. as i watched them vanish into the horizon it dawned on me that she may have simply been a gold-digging liar.
