GuESS WHAT I AM ?

When I began to write this poem last year, I was at a loss for words.
I have finally completed it. This is the best I could do.
And it is all true!

* * *

Once a thing of beauty, you stood straight and strong
Now you are a disaster, what could have gone wrong?
Daily you were observed, taken care of and respected
From around the globe they went, but left dejected
With an array of cameras, some of movies, others on still
You were constantly photographed, and spied on, at will.

Once a set of twelve, you have dwindled down to seven
The elements your curse, not meant to last like Heaven
When you were looked upon, those mounds kept crumbling
Who would have thought that your strength was rumbling?
When daily you struggled, with many years of over-use
You were still kept alive, would you call that abuse?

They were the lower ones, which cost the earth to restore
Some said it was dollars wasted, blown through the door
While some were wisely saved, others were fatally lost,
But all did not really benefit, from this exuberant cost
Let me piece it all together, their life was good and long
A fate worse than death, they are now where they belong

Surely you must know by now, just what I am talking about?
If you haven’t guessed my secret, then I will surely shout!
Am I talking about the 'Twelve Apostles?' I’m not that dense
So I will tell you this now, and not keep you in suspense!
Yes, the Great Ocean Road, does contain the 'Twelve Apostles'
But the five that crumbled, were not replaced, merely fossils.

I now smile and flash my pearly whites, there for all to see
Those lost, replaced and restored, and with an added guarantee!

GET IT?

Nuh, nuh, nuh! In a way I feel bad about having posted this, sometimes, I don't always write in good taste! But this particular time I was in 7th Heaven, so to speak!

It is Oh so easy!!!

Seven wonders of the world - they were twelve once?

Nup...Nup...Noooo! But it was a good guess.

Okay, in a way I've tricked you all, especially if you haven't been to Australia, for the Twelve Apostles are quite famous for overseas visitors, and 5 have indeed crumbled.

One more guess.

Asma...No...No...No...!

Don...I thought you would know, because I think you guess last year?

Like I said, perhaps it is in bad taste! Okay?

I love all your answers though, because they actually could fit, but it's not what you think it is.

Okay, one last clue...Look at the last lines.

Its a restoration project? The only project i could find in Australia that cost a lot was the restoration of the Brisbane City Hall in Queensland that was restored.

I dont think i can solve this one. :(

Oh Asma...Sorry, Remember...that I am a simple soul.
What you see, unfortunately, is what you get, ME!

Too easy! The last two lines!!!

I couldnt have guessed if you didnt say last two lines. you are very very clever - I read it again, and it makes sense. I didnt get it at all untill you gave me the cheat on it. :)

Asma and Cindy! Thank you both.
Like I said, it was not in good taste, as no-one could have understood, unless I gave a clue.
But I was so proud when the job was done, that I took a before and after shot with my digital camera, given to me by my family some years ago for my birthday.
Unfortunately, my upbringing could not afford proper foods, and at the convent, I was given too many sweets, so I lacked the calcium needed, especially when my mother was pregnant with me!
Now with modern science, my children have never ever had a filling at 37 and 38!

John...Yes, where have you been? You know we miss your 'happy soul' don't you?

I loved your little verse. Full of humour as usual! Only mine don't come out at night!
You have been working too long in a nursing home with them 'oldies'.
